My boss Pat is one of those guys that will pick up a shovel and work with me instead of shouting orders from the inside of an air-conditioned truck. I like that. He cares deeply about the jobs we do and I know I can trust him.

Reasons for working at Soil to Sod: I found that it was a company with integrity and excellent work ethic.  Pat is one of those guys that will pick up a shovel and work with me instead of shouting orders from the inside of an air-conditioned truck.  I like that.  He cares deeply about the jobs we do and I know I can trust him.

My boss: Pat Wolczuk. Pat loves plants.  He loves talking about plants.  He loves working with plants.  He loves planting plants.  Some companies just like to move dirt around.  Not Pat, he gets into the whole look and functionality of a yard.  Oh and did I mention the plants?

Co-Workers: Ben Ward. Ben is a fine worker.  He almost works as hard as me.  It's just that he doesn't possess the same musculature that I do.  Oh well.

Defining moment of choosing to work here: Pat had a long history of landscaping and advanced knowledge and experience in irrigation.  Pat and his company came highly recommended from clients.  Wherever I work I want to learn something.  If you're in a job where you're not picking up anything it's a tough day because your brain shuts down.  On every job I am always picking up something about aesthetics or, probably, plants.  There's that plant thing again.

The Flat side: As far as I can tell there are no 'cons' to my work environment.  Positive or negative moments happen all the time, it's what you take and learn from them.  I suppose one negative would be a searing hot day and four yards of rock to move but I would still enjoy it.  I know…I'm sick.

Why I still like it here: Pat is just a great boss, a great leader, and open to new ideas.  He just finished an ad campaign where he talked about how "a Soil to Sod yard looks like - if Mother Nature wanted to have relations with the God of Thunder, she'd choose a Soil to Sod yard to do it in".  It takes a lot of courage to run a ad like that, but that’s Pat.
